Abstract: |
The evaluation, consisting of the excavation of 13 trial trenches, was undertaken prior to the determination of planning application submitted by the University of Exeter. Large ditches in the east of trench A and the north of trench B appeared to represent the eastern angle of Roman enclosure situated in the south-west corner of the site. There was no clear evidence for any banks associated with the enclosure. The geophysical survey indicated that the ditches formed a continuous boundary, although the ditch in trench B was found to be more substantial. Ditches located within trench K represented the remains of a post-medieval field system, however, a small ditch on a different alignment was likely to have dated to an earlier period. The remainder of the site showed no evidence of archaeological remains. [Au(adp)] |
