Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment identified that there was one known and two possible archaeological sites of medieval or post-medieval date within the site 2.2 and 2.3 and there was a high potential that prehistoric and Roman remains would be present. Development in this area would be visible from much of the wider landscape. Within Area 4 no known archaeological sites were identified, but there was the potential of Roman and Iron Age periods remains, as the Roman town of Magiovinium lay c.4km to the Southwest. Evidence of ridge and furrow and hedgerows suggested an agricultural use and visual setting would also be affected here. It was possible that both sites of Area 5 might contain Iron Age settlement evidence and Roman remains. Area 13A contained a whole series of possible medieval earthworks. Area 14 did not reveal any archaeological features. The surrounding area contained much evidence for settlement and burial dating from the prehistoric to post-medieval periods. [Au(adp)] |
