Examines the architecture of the timber-framed house and uses documentary records to reveal information about the social importance of the family who built it. Appendices discuss: `Tree-ring dating' (69--70) that gives mid fifteenth-century dates for key timbers; the `1758 Enclosure Award reconstruction' (70--1); and `Post-1758 documentation' (71--2).

Discusses the hoard discovered in Brixton (Devon) in 1827. An account of the discovery is illustrated with reference to recently discovered correspondence. Includes a report on metallographic analysis, a study of the makers' marks, and the arms engraved on the vessels.

Questions the use of the term `hacksilver' (and variants) for describing deliberately broken precious-metal objects contained in Roman hoards (like that from Traprain Law, E Lothian). `Chopped silver' is considered a more neutral and preferable term.

This communion cup was presented to the church of St Mary the Virgin, Micheldever (Hampshire), in 1703. The identity of its donor, Lady Russell, is considered.

Discusses prints reportedly taken from two of a set of four engraved copper examples seen by Ames at Great Yarmouth in 1749. An `Appendix' (268) lists parallels for the scenes depicted.

Reports on recent work on OS archives: in the late nineteenth century the Society of Antiquaries of London campaigned, with some success, for a 25" survey of Wiltshire monuments which were coming under threat from the spread of arable agriculture on the Downs.
