The excavation of the Platform track, of 6th century BC, is described. Stray finds of weapons and tools continue to be made by peat-cutters and by archaeologists; the most recent are a hazelwood peg or truncheon and a sycamore tent peg, of 3rd-4th century BC. The relationship of the trackways and other finds to the marsh-side villages at Meare remains to be established. Au(abr) See also abstract 74/2380.

SW 929942. The collection of iron, bronze and glass objects found in Bulbury hillfort in 1881 is discussed in detail and dated to early 1st century AD. The nature of the deposit is uncertain, but it may contain three groups: (a) fittings of a male burial (tankard, sword, scabbard, horse bit, bronze bulls from a ?yoke); (b) fittings of a female burial (bronze bowls, mirror fragments, glass beads); and (c) an ironsmith's stock-in-trade (anchor, sledge-hammer, flawed axe etc). Appended is a note on the cleaning and conservation of the anchor. Au(amp)

A fragmentary lappet (pteryx) from the strong-room at Caernarvon Roman fort is identified as part of a statue of the emperor, probably of early 3rd century date. The nature of the strong-room fill suggests tidying-up after a sacking or raid.

TQ 673803 etc. Recurring symbols scored before firing on globular lid-seated jars now number 60 at Mucking and are known at nine other sites. Distribution centres on East Tilbury and date seems confined to the Claudian invasion period. The possibility of their being potters' batch marks is discussed.
