A phased programme of surface artefact collection followed by evaluation recovered localised artefact scatters relating to small-scale Mesolithic and Neolithic activity, along with a cluster of concentrations of LBA pottery. Partial excavation revealed a single feature of LBA date and LIA/Early RB features, suggesting the presence of a settlement of this date in the vicinity. Includes separately authored reports on

A sub-rectangular earthwork on Castle Hill was surveyed. Parallels with similar earthwork types on the mainland suggest that it served a late prehistoric stock-keeping function. The structure is likely to date from the IA or RB periods, although a date between the BA and medieval period is possible. Considerable damage to the earthworks was recorded, which was apparently caused by the storms of 1987 and 1991. Despite this the overall shape of the earthworks seems to have survived in a recognisable form. The article also considers the evidence for a possible eastern entrance.

Reports investigations in the vicinity of the house known as The Priory, which is situated within the precinct of Wherwell Abbey. To the north of the house evidence of a cemetery and also of substantial buildings was identified. These buildings are now known to be associated with the claustral range of the abbey church. To the south of the house a previously unrecorded stream course with adjacent medieval yard surfaces was recorded. This area is close to a recently identified medieval building, and geophysical survey has located the remains of other structures in the vicinity. It is believed that the structures date to a period of major renovation and expansion of the Abbey complex during the mid- to late-thirteenth century AD. Includes separately authored reports on
