Abstract
Ups and downs in the malting industry
Amber Patrick
2 - 3
Highlights the value of recording working processes before the closure of an industry. The recent closures of maltings at Beeston and east Dereham (Norfolk) are recorded while, in contrast, it is reported that a floor malting has been preserved as part of a tourist attraction at Tuckers Maltings in Newton Abbot (Devon).
Potters' milling -- an early ball mill rescued
Chris Bradley
6 - 7
Discusses the mills and processes employed for grinding hard materials for use in the Staffordshire Potteries. Also reports on the recent rescue of an early twentieth-century `ball mill' from Lower Washford Mill at Buglawton (Cheshire) -- possibly the earliest of its type in the country. The mill is to be displayed at the Etruria Industrial Museum, Stoke-on-Trent.
