Abstract:		 The fourth volume details every aspect of the excavation from an outline of the campaign itself and the publication research design to spatial analysis of the interior occupation. The first section (1-5) forms an `Introduction' and includes details of the hillfort's previous history, excavation campaign, recording system and report presentation, and includes a section on `The computerization of the Danebury archive' by Gary </ze> Lock (5). The second section (7-10) handles `Pre- and post-hillfort occupation' covering the Neolithic, Roman, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval evidence. There are sub-sections on `The prehistoric flint collection' by Ian </ze> Brooks (8) and `Early prehistoric pottery' by Lisa </ze> Brown (8). Section three (13-36) details `The hillfort defences and earthworks' including work on the inner, middle and outer earthworks and both the south-west and east entrances. There is also a summary of the defences and dating evidence. `The interior occupation' is the subject of the fourth section (38-239). This includes an appraisal of the nature of the evidence itself and the range of surviving data, as well as chronological and locational variation. It details all the structural elements and considers the establishment of a chronological sequence, as well as developments within the fort through time and over the physical land area. There is a small note, by way of section five (239), which mentions that organic samples have been taken for possible future dating work.
