A Middle Bronze Age bridge at Testwood Lakes, Hampshire, Great Britain
Andrew P Fitzpatrick
Christopher J Ellis
11 - 12
Notes on further discoveries at Testwood Lakes, Rownhams, since 1996; these have included a short length of waterlogged riverside revetment dated to the Mid- to Late Iron Age (Testwood II), and a structure (Testwood III) apparently similar to the waterlogged Middle Bronze Age timber `jetties' or causeways known as Testwood I. The site of Testwood III was fully excavated in 1999, and the structure was identified as the remains of at least two, successive, bridges that crossed a small river channel. The structure was radiocarbon dated to the Middle Bronze Age, and similarities in date and construction to the timbers at Testwood I indicate that the latter may also have been the remains of bridges.
A medieval marshland settlement at Loughpark, Co Galway, Ireland
James Lyttleton
23 - 25
Notes on a medieval marshland site at Loughpark on the outskirts of Tuam, excavated in 1913 and reinterpreted on the basis of recent research as a ringfort, rather than a crannog as was originally suggested.
