Abstract: |
A report on the manufacturing debris and an a wide range of objects in these materials retrieved from five locations in the city of York. The assemblage covers the date range of c. 850 to c. 1450, but the bulk of material is of Anglo-Scandinavian date (c. 850 to late eleventh century) and was recovered from 16--22 Coppergate. The occupation evidence from each sites is introduced in the following: `Excavation at 16--22 Coppergate' by R A Hall (1875--84); `The watching brief' [at Coppergate] by N F Pearson (1884--5); `Excavation at 22 Piccadilly' by R Finlayson (1885--7); `Excavations at the Bedern' by R A Hall (1887--91); `Excavations at 46--54 Fishergate' by R L Kemp (1891--7). Sonia O'Connor (1898--1901) details `The preservation, identification and conservation of the finds'. |
