Abstract: |
A late 2nd-mid 3rd century timber-lined well in The Bedern yielded large assemblages of biological remains (dumping of surface deposits?) with insects, spoiled grain, peat, box leaves, a salt-marsh flora, ?faeces all represented. A warmer climate than today is indicated by four species of heteropterous bug well north of their present range. Pit fills, some certainly of Anglian date, in The Bedern had contents suggesting low occupation density, significant so close to York's centre. Au (abr) |
