At No.23, within the area of the Franciscan Friary, were robber trenches filled with demolition material including architectural fragments, window glass, and painted plaster, all above dumps of domestic rubbish postdating the Norman Conquest. Two structures were noted, one piled, the other of post-in-trench build. Despite the depth of med deposits there was no pre-Conquest material, suggesting the Normans had cut down to improve their castle defences.

Brief report of results of surveying the site of a nunnery founded in 1154/8, where much information was obtained despite rebuilding of the church in 1811 and use of the site for a farmyard and an Outward Bound Centre. The water management system is for a fishpond, not a mill as previously thought. The farmhouse incorporates the nuns' frater, perhaps also dorter. Among mouldings which allow dating of major and minor rebuilding phases were some from an elaborate late 12th century cloister arcade. Rectified photography of upstanding structures and documentary survey were also done.
