Abstract: |
Presents the results of a landscape and archaeological survey of the eighteenth-century designed landscape around the National Trust for Scotland property in the parish of Mearns, south of Glasgow. The survey combined documentary research, field prospection, topographic survey, and horticultural survey (including the identification of all trees over a hundred years old). of the Greenbank estate and associated archaeological features. Appendices include: a list of `Primary sources on Greenbank', compiled by Stuart Nisbet (79--84); a list of `Maps held by Strathclyde Regional Archive under A J & A Graham, Renfrewshire' (85); the contents of the project's `Photographic archive' (86--9); a copy of the `Brief for the work' (91--5); and the `Greenbank garden traverse computation sheet' (96) used to establish a closed-loop traverse for topographical is survey is also presented. |
