Abstract:
Rescue excavation of the site, in advance of the M6 road upgrade, revealed evidence of settlement and a burnt mound, discrediting the impression that Mesolithic activity in Scotland was largely a coastal phenomenon. It is suggested that the site has far-reaching implications for the study of early settlement in Scotland, with the first example of a Mesolithic burnt mound to be identified in Britain.
