Abstract: |
The fourth season of excavation at the priory concentrated on the cloister garth (that had been filled by a post-medieval midden and contained at least one burial), the west range, the east end of the church (where remains of a possibly earlier church were revealed), and the cemetery (where more burials were uncovered, along with a stone surface and possible medieval stone structure. Provisional radiocarbon dates for the burials range from the sixth to the mid-thirteenth centuries AD. Appendices provide: a `List of contexts & samples taken' (20--1); a `List of small finds' (21--2); the `Human bone archive' (22--5); `Bird remains' (25); medieval and later `Coins from the 1994 season' by J D Bateson (26); `Plant remains' by D M Alldritt (27--32); and a `Pottery assessment by R S Will (33--40). |
