Abstract
The pattern of Old English burh in early Lindsey
Barrie H Cox
35 - 56
Discusses the distribution of settlements with the place-name burh in Lincolnshire and south Humberside, considering them in relation to more general evidence of Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement in the region. The paper confirms the traditional view that the Lindisfaran held an independent territory to north and of east of the rivers Witham and Till/Foss, and it appears that an organised defence of these lands was undertaken in the seventh century AD.
The `Dunstan B' charters
Simon Keynes
165 - 193
Presents provisional editions of two recently rediscovered charters of King Edgar. The first dates from AD~958 and relates to an estate at Coundon, Warwickshire; the second dates from AD 974 and relates to an estate at Brickendon, Hertfordshire. Also reviews the historical significance of the `Dunstan B' group of charters as a whole.
