Abstract: |
The book deals with the coins of the Coriosolite tribe of pre-Roman Gaul, inhabitants of what is now the Cotes-d'Armor in Brittany. The tribe left a large number of coins: more than 20,000 have been recorded, and large hoards of these coins have been found in Jersey, Brittany, and Normandy. Foremost among these is the La Marquanderie hoard from Jersey, consisting of over 11,000 coins, which forms the basis of this book. As well as cataloguing the coins, the author discusses Celtic religious philosophy and aesthetics, and examines subjects such as poetry, physics, and psychology. As well as finds in Jersey, the book includes references to finds in Britain. Appendices include a comparison of flow charts; a quick identification chart; an index of design elements; and a two-way Rybot-Hooker concordance with Colbert de Beaulieau's classes and Rybots groups. |
