Abstract
The La Tène cemetery at Scorborough, East Riding
Ian M Stead
1 - 11
TA 019450. Only two La Tène cemeteries survive in Yorkshire; this one, unfairly neglected, is now planned and described. It contains at least 120 barrows of sizes between 2m and 15m diameter, with some grouping by size being evident. The burial rites seen in old excavations indicate that this is an Arras Culture cemetery, but recent excavations yielded little extra information, survival being poor.
Excavations at Woodhall Manor, Beverley N Humberside
W J Varley
12 - 45
The central platform enclosed by a moat contained a succession of buildings which appeared to be based on a number of pillars. Pottery and other evidence suggests a date of c 1250-1350. A four-phase building identified as a granary was also examined.
Romano-British kilns at Hasholme near Holme upon Spalding Moor, Humberside N
J D Hicks
J A Wilson
William H Manning
49 - 70
Three kilns of Grimes Type A1 were producing Throlam wares and two fabrics distinct from Dalesware but in a similar style. An iron anvil of 13 kg weight is separately reported (pp 67-70).
