Abstract
Examination of slag and other metalworking debris from Hacheston, Suffolk, 1973'“4
Metalworking debris totalling 80kg, recovered from a series of excavations on the periphery of a Romano-British settlement, was examined visually to determine its technological origin. Although only a small proportion of the slag was diagnostic of iron smithing, the remaining material may also have derived from this process. None of the excavated structures, which included a hearth, appear to be related to metalworking activities.
