Abstract: |
This Late Iron Age/Roman transition site produced 24kg of metalworking debris. Although no furnace was identified, the slag suggested a variation of a slag pit iron smelting furnace in which impressions of chopped timber which filled the pit are transferred to the slag. Such furnaces have not previously been recognised in the United Kingdom but are known from the continent. |
