Abstract: |
An early hollow way with Late Saxon and early med domestic and industrial activity was filled and paved in 13th century. The church could be pre-Conquest in origin though first recorded in 1170; it was developed to 15th century, contracted in 16th, and had vaults inserted in 18th-19th destroying nearly all the stratification. The site was bombed in 1940. Good series of pottery from 11th century, coins, animal bones, etc; human bones were reburied without examination. |
