Abstract: |
Mostly deals with the 1980 excavations, adding a review of evidence for both fort and vicus. Early timber forts were succeeded by a Hadrianic stone one. Some reconstruction in interior c 163; early in 3rd century up to 30 circular buildings in the praetentura ?for a civilian work-force. To west, a military annexe? Major rebuild of fort occurred in c 223-5; later a ?cavalry block was built, in use until c 400. Diploma fragment (coh I Tungrorum); 3rd-4th century pottery sequence, coins, metalwork. Vicus of c 223-5 abandoned by later in 3rd century. |
