Abstract: |
Part I of the catalogue covers silver coins from the Northumbrian mints (essentially York) from the Viking issues beginning c 895, up to the "Long Cross" pennies ending in 1279. (The sceattas and stycas struck at York up to c 870 are excluded.) Part II covers Ancient British issues, and the rest of the Anglo-Saxon and Medieval series, including Irish and Scottish coins, from c 765 to 1279. The text also provides a complete summary of coins of the British Isles found within the city of York (with map); and a history of the York mint. Coins now missing (ie. lost or stolen) from the Yorkshire Museum are listed in detail. A supplement publishes non-British coins of the early Iron Age in the collections. Numis Lit(abr) |
