Abstract: |
During February and March 2006 ASC Ltd. undertook an archaeological watching brief during a water mains reinforcement scheme in Robert Street and Earl Street in Northampton. The area has been heavily disturbed by earlier service trenches, which have either destroyed or heavily truncated any archaeological features or deposits that may have been present. At the junction of Earl Street with Upper Mounts several large dressed stones were identified. These appear to have been re-deposited within the backfill a service trench, but may have originally been part of a structure, possibly the medieval defences that were located in that area. |
