Abstract:		 In May 2004 a ''strip and record excavation'' was undertaken at 21 St James Road, Northampton. An evaluation showed that remains of a row of terraced houses were on the site and the excavation was required in order to take environmental samples from any 19th century features associated with the houses which may be present. A variety of archaeological remains dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries were found on the site. Two brick walls, interpreted as the east and north walls of the terraced block were revealed. A number of external features, including a well, privy/cess pit and coal cellar were also recorded. Deposits offering environmental potential were not present on the site.
