Abstract: |
In response to an archaeological condition on the planning permission for the development of Hermit Road, an archaeological watching brief took place by Compass Archaeology Ltd. on behalf of The Heritage Network. Two boreholes were also dug and the cores subjected to stratigraphic and environmental assessment. The made ground and fill horizons contained occasional late post medieval finds, including pottery, clay tobacco pipe and fragments of brick or tile. Two drainage channels were recorded but not conclusively dated. There was no evidence of any associated human activity, or for any presence on the site before the 19th century. |
