Abstract: |
University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) were commissioned by Grace Homes Ltd and CgMs to carry out an archaeological field evaluation by trial trenching on land off Clarkesdale, Great Easton, Leicestershire (NGR SP 847 929). The evaluation was in advance of a proposed residential development and consisted of eight trenches placed across two fields and an access track. The site lies within the historic core of the village of Great Easton and close to prehistoric and Roman sites. The evaluation revealed a medieval ridge and furrow field system below that visible on the surface and other linear features containing pottery from the Iron Age through to the medieval period. The site archive will be deposited with Leicestershire County Council, Heritage Services with accession number X.A31.2006. |
