Abstract: |
The conversion of redundant barn buildings into 4 dwellings with attendant parking at Weatherhill Farm, Icklingham was subject to an archaeological monitoring during the excavation of footings. The conditions were set out in a Brief and Specification by Jess Tipper (Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service, Conservation Team) to fulfil a planning condition on application F/2005/1003. The work was funded by the developer Mr Browning. The site is situated on south facing gently rising ground above the floodplain of the River Lark (c. 25m OD). Interest in the site is focused on the location of a Roman road which passes through the field to the south of the farm and the attendant Roman settlement. |
