Abstract: |
ECC Field Archaeology Unit undertook an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching prior to the construction of a single residential dwelling attached to Gainsford End Mill, a Grade II Listed brick-built tower mill (Listed Building Number 114519). Documentary sources record that the tower mill replaced an earlier post mill of c.1800, evidence for which may have been damaged or destroyed by the proposed development and the evaluation was required to determine the presence or absence and significance of any remains associated with the earlier mill and/ or any evidence for earlier activity on the site. |
