Abstract:		 In July 2006, North Pennines Archaeology Ltd undertook an archaeological evaluation at Ebchester Primary School, Ebchester, Co. Durham. The work was requested in response to a proposal to extend the present playing field at the school to the south-west into an adjoining field. The results of the evaluation indicate that Roman archaeology is present within the development area, and the proposed scheme to level the field will directly impact on the archaeological remains. As such, the present programme of work is not sufficient to allow the development to continue, and it is recommended that further investigation of the area be undertaken, ideally as a small open area excavation, prior to future development.
