Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out by Archaeological Services in Febuary 2007 on the site of the Sergeant''s Mess, Marne Barracks, Catterick, North Yorkshire. Three trenches were excavated, one of which exposed a post-medieval field boundary ditch, known from cartographic sources to have been infilled between 1842 and 1857. An environmental sample from the ditch fill contained some spelt wheat grains, probably residual and derived from a known Roman villa 150m to the south. The other two trenches exposed modern services but no archaeological features. |
