Abstract: |
A building recording was undertaken of the extant limekilns at Bantling Castle in 2001. They were built in 1835 for the Stanhope and Tyne Railway to supplement the output from the kilns at Consett. Coal was provided by adjacent collieries, a mine and a series of drifts to the west and east of the kilns. The kilns were fed with limestone from a siding off the Stanhope and Tyne Railway |
