Abstract: |
Building survey and recording identified this house as a mid-late 17th-century development on part of the former City defences. The house was extended in the 18th century and radically altered in 1777-8 as a result of the construction of an adjacent viaduct. Evidence of a self-contained one-room dwelling survives on the ground floor; a rare survival of the accommodation of the 18th-19th-century urban poor. |
