Abstract: |
Archaeological Investigations Ltd. was commissioned to carry out an archaeological evaluation on the site of the proposed new livestock market. The site was a 21.3ha arable field adjacent to the Roman road running through the north of Hereford. Geological trial holes were monitored, a magnetomer survey was carried out and 75 evaluation trenches were excavated. A rectilinear structure was revealed by geophysics but lay outside the development area so was not excavated. A large linear hollow was excavated and contained Bronze Age pottery. Two spreads of charcoal within the feature were dated to the Dark Ages and the Bronze Age. |
