Abstract: |
In November 2008, ARCUS were commissioned by Andrew Watson to undertake archaeological building recording on Sunnyside Cottage, Lindrick, Tickhill, South Yorkshire (SK 5905 9273). The recording was undertaken to meet the terms of an archaeological condition which was placed on the consent for development. Recording comprised floor plans, cross section, and photography. The building lay on a roughly level site, orientated northwest-southeast, with its southern boundary defined by Lindrick. The footprint of the building occupied an area of 55m2. It was a rectangular two-storey limestone with a single-storey lean against the south-eastern gable. Sunnyside Cottage was a good surviving example of a small post-medieval agricultural building dating to the early-mid 18th century. Although the structure had been converted several times within its lifetime, sufficient evidence remained to indicate it had originally been a cattle-shed. Particularly the survival of a brick manger. |
