Abstract: |
Between the 29th January and 6th February 2007 an archaeological Watching Brief, on behalf of Ian Beach Associates, was carried out on a programme of ground reduction at The White Lion Public House. This involved the excavation of a single large trench measuring 10m by 3.5m. The stratigraphy observed demonstrated that natural deposits were overlaid by subsoil, with the earliest feature, a drainage channel, cut into the subsoil. The drainage channel was subsequently sealed by further soil accumulation and made ground deposition. Of the deposits observed, none were deemed to be of significant archaeological value. |
