Abstract: |
From 20 February - 30 March 2007 an archaeologist monitored soil removal at the site. Firstly a drainage pipe trench was excavated (see Plan 1). This work was not covered by the Specification (Judith Stones, October 2006) as this was extra work which had not been planned. The trench was recorded after excavation. The trench was 2m deep at the north-west with c 1m depth of topsoil and was 1.2 m deep at the south-east with a topsoil depth of 10-20cm. No archaeological features or finds were seen in this trench although it was noted that there was evidence that trees had been growing on the site. On the north side of Old Ferry Road (between the development and the road) a line of mature trees survives. It is likely that there had been a line along the south side of this road which had been removed in the recent past. |
