Abstract:
An archaeological watching brief was carried out on the site prior to the errection of 5 houses. Little Broad Oak Farm was a former farmhouse with possible 16th or 17th century origins, with the purpose of the watching brief being to identify and record any archaeological deposits connected to the earlier uses of the site. The remnants of some brick footings, which formed a westerly extension to the north wall of the farmhouse were noted. It is apparent from the cartographic evidence that this extension was present in 1948 but demolished before 1991. the size of the bricls suggest a late 17th or 18th century date for its construction. A ditch with a modern drain and a silage pit were alo noted in the orchard area to the north of the house.
