Abstract: |
In response to an archaeological condition on the planning permission for new housing on land at Peace Close, Goffs Lane, Cheshunt, Herts, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the developer to undertake the archaeological monitoring of the development groundworks. The monitoring and recording of the groundworks revealed evidence for the former northern and western wings of Cheshunt Great House which were demolished in the early 19th century. Only the footings of these wings survive, and no evidence of internal floor levels or decoration were observed. Evidence of earlier activity on the site was recovered in the form of two joining bodysherds of unstratified Romano-British pottery. |
