Abstract: |
Level 2 building recording project undertaken on redundant farm buildings attached to The Mains prior to their proposed conversion to holiday accommodation. The buildings, two threshing barns and a byre, were found to have historically belonged to the adjacent Midtown Farm which dates from the late 18th century. The Mains, or Mains House, is first documented in 1925. The survey found architectural detail in one of the barns to suggest an 18th century date but no documentary evidence could be found to confirm this. Evidence of a former apsidal gin-case was seen in the other barn. |
