Abstract: |
LXD 055, Land adjacent to The Cottage, Bicker's Hill Road, Laxfield: A trial trench evaluation was carried out at the above site in advance of the construction of a detached house. One evaluation trench was excavated, covering approximately 5.5% of the area of the proposed development. The site is located within 100m of the medieval parish church and close to the historic core of the village, which is defined in the County Historic Environment Record as a site of regional importance. The evaluation revealed glacial till deposits at a depth of approximately 0.60m below ground level. These are sealed by layers of subsoil and modern topsoil/garden soil. One archaeological feature was identified -a 19th-century boundary ditch that is shown on the parish tithe map of 1841 and subsequent Ordnance Survey maps until at least 1902. |
