Abstract:		 In April 2008 a programme of archaeological monitoring was undertaken on the site formerly known as the 'Crooked Billet', Billet Lane, Berkhamsted, during additions and alterations to the existing building. The footprint of the development was reduced in a piecemeal fashion with only short intervals between the ground being exposed and then filled with crushed rubble. However, it was clear that there was no evidence for any pre-modern activity on the site, either in the form of features or artefacts.
