Abstract: |
As the result of an archaeological condition on the planning permission for the conversion to residential use of the former Jenyns School, The Street, Braughing, Herts, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the developers to provaide a record of the buildings, and an overview of their development, prior to the start of the conversion works. At the time that the Heritage Network was commissioned to undertake the recording, both buildings had been stripped out internally. Building 1, which forms the original Girls' School at the west end of the site, was built in 1868 and extended to include an Infants' School in 1877. Building 2, which forms the original Boys' School and Master's House at the east end of the site, was built in 1875. Structural changes to the buildings since then have been relatively minor and, for the most part reflect changes in educational practice. |
