Abstract: |
Historic building record of the former Canteen and Administration Blocks to Hatfield Aerodrome. The buildings are in International Modern style and were built of reinforced concrete in the early 1930s. The present study provides a written, drawn and photographic record of the buildings prior to the development works which will convert them to new use. By comparison with photographs from the archives of BAe Systems, and maps which show the changing layout of the aerodrome since the 1930s, it is clear that the buildings have undergone only superficial changes since their construction. It is expected that the proposed development will largely retain the external appearance of the buildings and key elements of the interiors. |
