Abstract:
This report represents the results of an archaeological watching brief undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group at Upper Castlehill, Stirling, Stirlingshire during the construction of a Temporary Site Compound at the site. The works were undertaken in accordance with the principles inherent in NPPG 5 (SOEnd 1994), and PAN 42 (SOEnd 1994a). The work was carried out over the 4th and 5th of August 2008 and was conducted according to the terms of a Written Scheme of Investigation (AOC 2008) which was agreed by DCT Civil Engineering Ltd, and approved by the planning authority as advised by Ms Lorna Main, Archaeology Officer with Stirling Council. The watching brief monitored the topsoil stripping of approximately 900 m2 land parcel located on level ground at 70m OD. The area is bounded to the south and west by Upper Castlehill. The watching brief revealed neither features nor artefacts of archaeological significance. No further archaeological works are recommended.
