Abstract: |
A level 1 photographic survey was conducted by CFA Archaeology Ltd which recorded the Powderhall Bailey Bridge prior to its demolition and replacement by a new walkway. The Powderhall Bailey Bridge was a standard 3-section Bailey Bridge of standard modular design. It was 52m in length with three 4m wide spanning sections. The bridge was supported on two iron piers and was 8.04m above the Water of Leith. A large amount of archive material has been examined as part of the study. This archive material when examined in conjunction with photographs taken at the time of construction confirms that the bridge is of standard Bailey format. the bridge has undergone minor episodes of repair since it was first constructed in 1948. |
