Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on the site of a proposed new auction house at the edge of the Brent Avenue Industrial Estate, on the N side of Montrose. On the evidence of aerial photography, the site is encircled by archaeological features of presumed prehistoric origin. A total of 15 slit trenches were opened within an area measuring some 90m by 74m but it became clear early in the investigation that the area had been subject to large-scale ground disturbance in recent times. Test pits were excavated to a depth of over 1m in several trenches, all of these pits yielding very modern artefacts, including plastic sheeting and large pieces of tarmac. |
