Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation of twenty-two linear trenches were excavated across the area; a ditch and posthole were recorded, the ditch was either prehistoric or post-medieval in date, the posthole was undated, but might have been post-medieval. Modern construction debris was encountered in a number of trenches that probably related both to the construction of houses to the east of the development area and to development within the former Friskies Pet Care site with which the land had been associated. A small number of worked flints were recovered from the subsoil and topsoil that indicate a low level of background prehistoric activity within the vicinity of the development area. An Archaeological monitoring was carried out on the removal of the slabs and foundations of some of the Friskies Pet Care buildings. Two visits were made to the site and a number of digital photographs were taken. The slab and footings were generally very shallow at less than 0.2m in depth. At this depth only topsoil and subsoil were observed. Some concrete pads measuring approximately 0.5m by 0.5m by 0.4m in depth were removed. No features were observed when these were removed.
