Abstract: |
A scheme of archaeological monitoring, evaluation and an excavation was undertaken at the Larks Meadow housing development on Murrills Road, Purdis Farm, Ipswich as a result of the discovery of human remains by Persimmon Homes (Essex) contractors during the excavation of a pipe trench. The archaeological works consisted of a series of 23 linear trenches and a stripped area of approximately 2,300m², machine excavated to the depth of the natural subsoil, as well as monitoring the foundations of various house plots. A number of features were exposed and investigated, the majority dated to between the 9th - 13th centuries, although there was some evidence to support further burial within the cemetery to at least the 15th century. |
