Abstract: |
During July - August 2007 ASC Ltd carried out a watching brief during replacement of a water main running under Westgate, Peterborough. Sections of the pipe trench had been partially backfilled prior to the initial watching brief visit although the open sections suggested that much of the replacement pipe passed through ground already disturbed by insertion of services during relatively recent decades. Late Post Medieval deposits were present at the junction of Westgate with Acland Street and outside Westgate Church and preserved surfaces were revealed by the pipe trench east and west of Lincoln Road. The upper surface deposits were relatively recent although the two basal deposits could predate the Post Medieval period. |
