Abstract: |
In April 2010 Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) carried out an archaeological evaluation at Cheddington Manor, Manor Road, Cheddington, Buckinghamshire (NGR SP 9166 1739). The evaluation was carried out to fulfil a planning condition attached to planning permission for a proposed new swimming pool contained within a new single-storey side extension to the manor (Planning Ref: 06/3313). Cheddington Manor House is grade II Listed and was built in the late 16th to early 17th century but has been subject to much alteration (CAS 529202). Archaeological remains relating to the earlier medieval manor might be located on the site. The site lies 700m north of a scheduled multivallate hillfort, miscellaneous earthworks, including possible lynchets have been recorded on the chalk hillside adjacent to the manor house (CAS1271). In the event the evaluation revealed early modern brick garden walls |
